# Share a channel

Use one destination across projects, manage its cadence and move pending work.

URL: /docs/shared-channels

Sharing, channel cadence and publication moves are available from `0.1.0-alpha.3`.
Check [releases](/docs/releases/) before following this guide on an earlier image.

Use a shared channel when several projects publish to the same destination. They
reuse its content profile and connection while keeping separate posts, media,
publication schedules and access rights. Adding a project does not create another
provider connection or turn a manual channel into an automatic one.

## Give another project publication use [#give-another-project-publication-use]

1. In the project that manages the channel, open **Channels**.
2. Open the channel's menu and choose **Use in other projects…**.
3. Under **Add a project**, select an authorized project in the same workspace.
4. Open that project's Channels page. The destination appears with a **Shared** badge.

The added project can prepare and publish according to its members' project roles.
The managing project controls the common profile, connection and cadence. Sharing
does not reveal connection credentials. The person who connected the account is
recorded for attribution; their departure does not revoke the connection.

You must have authority over the channel and the target project. The picker lists
eligible projects you can access. A workspace administrator can recover channel
management, but workspace administration alone does not grant access to a project's
publication content.

<Callout title="Sharing exposes occupied times" type="warn">
Attached projects can see when other projects use the channel. Readers with access to those
projects can see publication details; everyone else sees anonymous occupied times and states,
without titles, content or project names. Drafts from unreadable projects are not shown or
    counted in that calendar view.
</Callout>

## Inspect workspace channels or transfer management [#inspect-workspace-channels-or-transfer-management]

Open **Workspace channels** from the project's Channels page or workspace settings.
The page lists channels you can read or manage and filters project usage by your
access. Use **Include archived channels** to inspect retained channels. Creating a
channel here requires an explicit initial project; creation from a project's
Channels page chooses that project as its first user and manager.

Expand a channel to review its projects. Under **Channel management**, choose an
attached project as **New managing project**, review the consequence and choose
**Confirm management transfer**. Members of the previous managing project may
lose configuration access. Other attached projects keep publication use.

Attachment changes do not transfer management automatically. If the managing
project is removed, workspace administrators recover management rather than
promoting another attached project. A concurrent change can invalidate the transfer;
review the refreshed state before confirming again.

## Set optional cadence [#set-optional-cadence]

From the managing project's channel menu, choose **Cadence…**. You can also manage
cadence from **Workspace channels** when authorized. Leave a limit empty to disable
it, or configure:

| Rule | Effect |
| ---------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Daily maximum | Warns when a plan exceeds the limit for a civil day |
| Weekly maximum | Warns when a plan exceeds the limit for a Monday-start week |
| Minimum interval | Delays automatic publication on the channel, including retries |

Choose the channel timezone and **Save cadence**. Its initial timezone comes from
the managing project. You still enter a publication's date in its project timezone.
The channel timezone determines which day or week the cadence counts use.

Counts include scheduled, ready, publishing, published and ambiguous work across
the channel's projects. Drafts, cancelled work and definitely failed work do not
participate. Manual results use their recorded publication time. Postdot cannot
account for posts sent outside the application. Delays and retries can move the
actual delivery into a different day from the original plan.

When planning exceeds a maximum, review **Exceed channel cadence?**. Choose
**Change schedule** to stop, or **Confirm this exception** to accept that specific
plan. Confirmation does not disable the rule for later work. If the plan or rule
changes, review the new conflict.

Minimum spacing preserves the requested schedule and shows a delayed-until time.
An authorized editor can choose **Publish without this interval…** and confirm the
current timing exception. Provider limits and security checks still apply.

## Move pending work to another channel [#move-pending-work-to-another-channel]

You can move a draft or future ready/scheduled publication that has no execution
attempt. Overdue, previously attempted and completed publications cannot move.
The destination must be another active channel attached to the same project.

1. Open the publication and save any local changes. If its source has changed,
review and save the draft against the current source first.
2. Choose **Move to another channel…**, then select the destination.
3. For an automatic-capable destination, review the delivery mode.
4. Choose **Confirm move** and inspect the replacement publication.

Postdot creates a new publication in the same post from the saved working content
and checks its content and media against the destination profile. It cancels and
links the original in the same operation. Original content revisions and execution
history remain intact; approvals, delivery results and cadence exceptions do not
transfer.

Compatible scheduled work keeps its date. Incompatible content remains available
in an unscheduled draft for review, with the previous requested time displayed.
Review the validation issues and choose a new schedule explicitly. The replacement
links to the original, and the original links back while the replacement exists.
A stale source, draft, schedule or destination profile causes a conflict before
cancellation. Inspect the current state before trying again.

## Withdraw a project [#withdraw-a-project]

In **Use in other projects…** or **Workspace channels**, choose **Withdraw** for
the project. A project owner can withdraw their own project; channel managers can
withdraw another authorized project. Withdrawing the last active project requires
**Withdraw and archive**.

Withdrawal closes future use and retains history. Pending work becomes unavailable
for review; withdrawal does not rewrite or silently move it. Cancel that work or
use an eligible publication's move action. An operation already started at the
provider can finish and record its result. A connection shared with surviving
projects remains available to them.

See [channel profiles](/docs/channels/) for profile changes and destination
confirmation, [archive and delete](/docs/projects/) for project retirement, or the
[CLI reference](/docs/cli-reference/#share-and-manage-channels) for machine workflows.
