# First comments

Prepare a delayed comment on a supported automatic publication.

URL: /docs/first-comments

Native automatic Bluesky and Mastodon publications can have a separately prepared
first comment. It has its own delivery outcome; it is not part of the parent
post's success. Other destinations do not inherit this capability.

## Prepare and enable [#prepare-and-enable]

Open a draft or scheduled supported publication and expand **First comment**.
Enter the comment text, choose **Send after**, then select **Save and enable**.
Enabling authorizes an external effect after the eligible parent is confirmed
published. A zero delay means eligible after confirmation, not before it.

A connected publishing account is needed for delivery. A prepared comment is not
proof of a working connection. The delay is relative to confirmed publication;
if it passes while Postdot is offline, eligible work can run after recovery.
Do not enable a real comment solely to test an installation.

## Check the outcome [#check-the-outcome]

Inspect the comment state separately from the parent. A comment failure does not
change the confirmed parent into a failed publication. If the parent/content has
changed, follow the review shown by Studio rather than assuming the enabled text
still matches the current target.

Use **Cancel comment** when eligible to stop pending comment work. Once a provider
may have accepted a send, treat uncertainty as possible delivery and inspect the
remote result before retry/reconciliation. Do not create a second copy to clear
an ambiguous state.

Provider limits and parent/account identity checks remain server-owned. The
comment feature is not a moderation inbox or a general reply scheduler. API-key
writes require dispatch capability in addition to project edit access; ordinary
read access does not authorize enabling a comment.
